Internal filter, 4×4, with Pop-off relieve valve
All 4×4 applications of RFE transmissions use the 4×4-style filter. As modification on existing filter there are also versions available with Pop-off valve to relieve excess pressure (45RFE.FIL21).
All 2WD applications in 1999-2007 model years used the 2WD-style filter. From 2008-UP there are some 2WD applications which use the 4×4-style filter. It is important to use the filter style that matches the exisiting filter, else you will not be able to properly install the oil pan.
